Kady MacDonald Denton (born 22 July 1941) is a Canadian artist. She is famous for creating children's books. She mostly illustrates picture books. She once said she doesn't use computers for her art. She draws everything by hand!

Early Life and Education

Kady MacDonald Denton was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This was on July 22, 1941. She grew up in Toronto, Ontario. She loved art and studied at several schools. These included the University of Toronto. She also went to the Banff School of Fine Arts. And the Chelsea School of Art. Today, she lives in Peterborough, Ontario, with her husband.

Her Work as an Artist

Kady MacDonald Denton started illustrating books in the early 1990s. She worked on several collections of stories. These were retold by Ann Pilling.

She has won many important awards for her art. In 1998, she won the Governor General's Award. This was for her book A Child's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes. It's a big award in Canada. It celebrates the best children's illustration. She also won the Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustrator's Award in 1999. And the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Canadian Picture Book Award.

Before this, she won the Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon award. This was for Til All the Stars Have Fallen. It is a book of Canadian poems for children. She won the Mrazik-Cleaver award again in 2006. This was for the book Snow, written by Joan Clark.

Her book Would They Love a Lion? is very special. Kady wrote and illustrated this book. The Children's Literature Association gave it an Honor Winner award. This was the 2015 Phoenix Picture Book Award. This award celebrates books that are still loved 20 years later. They look at how well the pictures and words work together.
