Valley's Location and Features

The Kaghan Valley stretches for about 160 kilometers (100 miles). It starts from a town called Balakot in the lower part of the valley and goes all the way up to Babusar Pass at the very end of the upper valley.

Most of the valley is surrounded by the forests and hills of the Himalayas. The Kunhar River flows through almost its entire length, adding to its beauty. The people living in the valley are mostly semi-nomadic Gujars, along with some Swatis, Awans, and Syeds.

History and Main Attractions

For a long time, the Kaghan Valley was a quiet and less-known area. However, in the late 1800s, officers from British India created an important supply route through the Babusar Pass to the northern regions. After this, the valley started to become popular for tourism.

Places like Shogran and Naran Valley were developed as tourist centers. The valley is also home to several beautiful lakes, including the famous Saiful Muluk Lake. Other notable lakes are Ansoo Lake, Dudupat Sar, and Lulu Sar. You can also find the lovely Lalazar Meadows here. Malika Parbat is a very high mountain peak in the area.

Every year, from May to August, thousands of tourists visit the valley. They travel from Abbottabad and Mansehra to see these amazing places. For most of the rest of the year, the Kaghan Valley is covered in heavy snow, making it difficult to access.
