Kahibah Public School is a public primary school in Kahibah, Australia. It's a suburb near Lake Macquarie in New South Wales. This school is for all kids, both boys and girls.
It first opened in 1938 in the Kahibah Memorial Hall. Later, in 1954, it moved to its current spot. The school teaches students from Kindergarten up to Year 6. About 287 students attend the school. The current Principal is Honi Faasisila.
The school is also officially recognized as a war memorial.
School History
Kahibah Public School started in 1938. It began as a school for younger kids (Infants school). It was located in the Kahibah Memorial Hall. Only 33 students were there at first, with just one teacher.
By 1949, the number of students grew to 50. But there was still only one teacher. People realized a bigger, permanent school was needed. This new school would teach all primary ages.
The school closed for a short time in 1951. Most students went to the school in Charlestown. But it reopened in 1952 as a full primary school.
In 1953, land was bought where the school is now. Four new buildings opened there in 1954. In 1955, more land was added. Two more buildings were built and used by October that year. The school was officially opened on August 11, 1956. Two more buildings were added in 1960.
The school had its most students in the mid-1970s, with about 450 kids. Since then, the number of students has slowly gone down. Today, about 252 students attend.
A Special War Memorial
The Kahibah Memorial Hall was very important. It was first called the Soldier's Memorial Hall. It opened in 1922. This hall was about 270 meters (886 feet) north-west of the school's current location.
In 1996, the hall was taken down to build new homes. The money from selling the land went to the Kahibah Public School's P&C Association. The P&C is like a parent and citizen group.
In 2004, something special happened. The honor rolls from World War I and World War II were moved. These rolls listed people from Kahibah who served in the wars. They were moved from the old hall to the Kahibah Public School Memorial Hall. This was done for safekeeping and display. Because of this, the school was officially registered as a war memorial.
