Kaiane Loise Aldorino Lopez (born 8 July 1986) is a famous person from Gibraltar. She is known for two big things: winning the Miss World 2009 beauty pageant and later becoming the Mayor of Gibraltar.
Kaiane was the first person from Gibraltar to ever win a major international beauty contest. After her time as Miss World, she served as the Mayor of Gibraltar from 2017 to 2019. This was a special role, like being the main representative of the city. Before becoming Mayor, she was the Deputy Mayor starting in 2014.

Early Life and Interests
Kaiane Aldorino was born and grew up in Gibraltar. Before she became famous, she worked as a clerk in the human resources department at St Bernard's Hospital for five years. Like many people in Gibraltar, she grew up speaking both English and Spanish.
Kaiane started dancing when she was 14 years old. She joined a group called Urban Dance Group. In 2008, she went to Germany to represent Gibraltar in a big dance competition. Her team placed 17th, which was a great achievement for Gibraltar.
In June 2015, Kaiane married Aaron Lopez, who is also from Gibraltar. They have one daughter, who was born in 2016.
Beauty Pageant Journey
Becoming Miss Gibraltar 2009
On June 27, 2009, Kaiane Aldorino won the title of Miss Gibraltar 2009. She was crowned at the beautiful Alameda Open Air Theatre. This win meant she would go on to represent Gibraltar in the Miss World competition.
Winning Miss World 2009
On December 12, 2009, Kaiane Aldorino made history. She became the first ever Miss Gibraltar to be crowned Miss World! This big event happened in Johannesburg, South Africa. She was also the first person from Gibraltar to even reach the semifinals of a major international beauty pageant. She had won the "Miss World Beach Beauty" title earlier in the competition.
When Kaiane was crowned, people in Gibraltar celebrated a lot. They went into the streets, waved the flag of Gibraltar, and honked car horns. There were even fireworks! The leader of Gibraltar, Chief Minister Peter Caruana, said her win was amazing for her and for Gibraltar. He promised a huge welcome home for her.
During her year as Miss World, Kaiane traveled to more than 40 countries. Some of these included Japan, Canada, United States, Spain, Germany, and China.
A Hero's Welcome Home
On December 15, 2009, the government of Gibraltar announced that Kaiane would fly home on a private jet. The next day, they shared details about her special arrival.
On December 17, 2009, Kaiane had a big parade down Main Street. She rode in the same convertible car that Diana, Princess of Wales and Prince Charles used during their visit to Gibraltar. The band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment led the parade. After the parade, she appeared on the balcony of the City Hall. The celebrations ended with a fantastic fireworks show over Gibraltar Harbour. The government even asked businesses to close for a few hours so everyone could join the celebration!
Public Service Career
Serving as Mayor of Gibraltar
In March 2014, Kaiane Aldorino was chosen to be the Deputy Mayor of Gibraltar. This happened after the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo suggested it to the Parliament.
On April 4, 2017, she officially became the Mayor of Gibraltar. As Mayor, one of her first actions was to create a website and social media pages for the Mayor's Office. She also started photo albums for people who visited her office.
In May 2018, she gave ten thousand dollars to two important places: the Rainbow Ward at St Bernard's Hospital and St Martin's School. This money came from the Miss World Organization. In September 2018, Kaiane hosted a special "twinning ceremony" between Gibraltar and Jamaica. She also visited Kingston in Jamaica in February 2019 to strengthen this connection. During her visit, she received the keys to the city of Kingston.
Kaiane's time as Mayor ended on April 4, 2019. John Gonçalves then took over the role.
Special Awards and Recognition
On July 7, 2011, Kaiane Aldorino received two very special awards from the Gibraltar Parliament. She was given the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour. Everyone in the Parliament voted for her to receive these awards.
The motion, suggested by Chief Minister of Gibraltar Peter Caruana, said that her "extraordinary personal achievement in becoming Miss World 2009" brought "enormous pride and global recognition" to Gibraltar. Kaiane Aldorino was the first woman ever to receive the Freedom of the City in Gibraltar.
