Kaiane Loise Aldorino Lopez (born 8 July 1986) is a famous person from Gibraltar. She was crowned Miss World 2009, which is a big international beauty contest. Later, she became the Mayor of Gibraltar from 2017 to 2019. Before that, she was the Deputy Mayor starting in 2014.
Kaiane Aldorino Lopez made history by being the first woman from Gibraltar to win Miss World. She was also the first Gibraltarian to reach the semi-finals of any major international beauty contest.

Early Life and Interests
Kaiane Aldorino grew up in Gibraltar. Before she became Miss Gibraltar, she worked for five years at St Bernard's Hospital. She helped with human resources, which means she helped manage people who work there. Like many people in Gibraltar, Kaiane speaks both English and Spanish.
When she was 14, Kaiane started dancing with a group called Urban Dance Group. She even represented Gibraltar in a big dance competition in Germany in 2008. Her team placed 17th, which was a great achievement for Gibraltar.
Kaiane married Aaron Lopez in June 2015. They have one daughter, who was born in 2016.

Becoming Miss Gibraltar
On 27 June 2009, Kaiane Aldorino won the title of Miss Gibraltar 2009. The contest took place at the Alameda Open Air Theatre.
Winning Miss World 2009
Kaiane Aldorino made history on 12 December 2009. She became the first person from Gibraltar to be crowned Miss World! This happened in Johannesburg, South Africa. She had also won the "Miss World Beach Beauty" title, which helped her reach the semi-finals.
When Kaiane won, people in Gibraltar celebrated a lot. They went into the streets, waved the flag of Gibraltar, and set off fireworks. The leader of Gibraltar, Peter Caruana, said her win was a "wonderful achievement." He promised a big welcome home for her. In 2010, she was a special judge at the Mister World 2010 contest in South Korea.
During her time as Miss World, Kaiane traveled to more than 40 countries. Some of these included the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Canada, the United States, Spain, Germany, and China.
A Hero's Welcome Home
On 15 December 2009, the government of Gibraltar announced that Kaiane would fly home on a private jet. On 16 December, they shared plans for her arrival. She was greeted at Gibraltar Airport and then rode in a special parade through Main Street. She rode in the same convertible car that Diana, Princess of Wales and Prince Charles used during their visit to Gibraltar.
On 17 December 2009, Kaiane paraded down Main Street with the band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. She then appeared on the balcony of the Gibraltar City Hall. After that, she met with reporters and attended a party. The celebrations ended with a fireworks show at Gibraltar Harbour. The government even asked businesses to close for a few hours so people could join the celebrations.
Public Service Career
Serving as Mayor of Gibraltar
In March 2014, Kaiane Aldorino was chosen to be the Deputy Mayor of Gibraltar. She worked alongside the Mayor, Adolfo Canepa.
On 4 April 2017, she officially became the Mayor of Gibraltar. As Mayor, she quickly set up a website and social media pages for the Mayor's Office. She also created photo albums for visitors.
In May 2018, she gave ten thousand dollars from the Miss World Organization to two important places: the Rainbow Ward at St Bernard's Hospital and St Martin's School. On 11 September 2018, she hosted a special "twinning ceremony" between Gibraltar and Jamaica. The Mayor of Kingston, Jamaica, attended this event. In February 2019, Kaiane visited Jamaica to make the "twinning agreement" stronger. During this trip, she received the keys to the city of Kingston.
Kaiane Aldorino Lopez finished her term as Mayor on 4 April 2019. John Gonçalves then became the new Mayor.
Special Awards
On 7 July 2011, Kaiane Aldorino received two very special awards from the Gibraltar Parliament. She was given the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour. Everyone in Parliament voted for her to receive these awards.
The reason for these honors was her "extraordinary personal achievement" in becoming Miss World 2009. Her win brought "enormous pride and global recognition" to Gibraltar. Kaiane Aldorino was the first woman ever to receive the Freedom of the City in Gibraltar.
