Kalabhavan Mani was a famous Indian actor and singer. His full name was Kunnisseri Veettil Raman Mani. He was born on January 1, 1971, and passed away on March 6, 2016.
Mani began his career as a mimicry artist. He worked with the Kalabhavan comedy troupe, where he copied the voices and actions of others. He acted in over 250 films in different languages like Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu. He was well-known for playing both funny characters and serious villain roles.
Mani won important awards for his acting. He received the National Film Award – Special Jury Award and the Kerala State Film Award. These awards were for his amazing performance as Ramu in the movie Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum (1999).

About His Life
Kalabhavan Mani was born in Chalakudy, Thrissur District in Kerala. His parents were Raman and Ammini. He had an older brother, a younger brother named R. L. V. Ramakrishnan, and four sisters. Mani went to school in Chalakudy until the 10th grade.
He married Nimmy on September 22, 1999. They had a daughter named Sreelakshmi, who was born in 2000. Before becoming a famous actor, Mani worked as an autorickshaw driver in Chalakudy. His brother, R. L. V. Ramakrishnan, also acted in a small role in the movie Bamboo Boys.
His Acting Career
Kalabhavan Mani started his career by performing mimicry with the Cochin Kalabhavan drama group. His first movie role was a small part in the Tamil film Captain Prabhakaran. He then started acting in Malayalam films. His first role was as an auto-rickshaw driver in Aksharam.
He got his first big break in the movie Sallapam (1996), which was a hit. After that, he acted in many comedy roles. Some of his notable funny roles were in movies like Dilliwala Rajakumaran and Summer in Bethlahem.
Mani showed his talent for serious roles in Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum. In this film, he played a blind singer, which earned him special awards. These awards helped him get more roles as main characters and villains.
He played a villain for the first time in Vakkalathu Narayanankutty (2001). His performance as a corrupt politician in Rakshasa Rajavu (2001) was also highly praised. The Guard was a special movie because Mani was the only actor in it.
He received great appreciation for his role as Kuttan in Karumadikuttan. Mani also impressed audiences in Valkannadi (2002), where he played a blacksmith with a mental illness.
After 2002, Mani focused more on playing main characters and villains. In 2005, he played an action hero for the first time in Ben Johnson, which was very successful. He also played a memorable villain in Chotta Mumbai (2007).
In 2009, Mani played the lead role in the critically acclaimed family drama Aayirathil Oruvan. His performance as Looyi Papan in Amen (2013) was loved by both critics and audiences. His last Malayalam movie, Poyi Maranju Parayathe, was released in 2016 after he passed away.
Mani also became well-known in the Tamil film industry. He played a villain in Gemini (2002), which starred Vikram. He acted in over 30 Tamil films, as well as many Kannada and Telugu movies. His last Tamil film was Pudhusa Naan Poranthen in 2016.
Besides acting, Mani was also a popular singer of Nadan Pattu (folk songs). He released many music albums, and his first one was Kannimanga Prayathil. He also sang religious songs.
Helping Others
Kalabhavan Mani was known for his kindness and for helping people in need. He often helped those who were less fortunate. Many people would visit his home every day to ask for his help.
He also contributed money to local festivals and helped schools in his village. He openly supported the Left political parties and campaigned for them during elections.
His Passing Away
Kalabhavan Mani passed away on March 6, 2016, when he was 45 years old. He had been admitted to Amrita Hospital in Kochi the day before.
Police investigated his death because toxic chemicals were found in his body. Forensic tests showed a poisonous chemical called Chlorpyrifos, which is used in insecticides. This chemical is banned in many countries. The report suggested that Mani might have taken the poison, either by accident or on purpose, in the days before his death.
His sudden death made many fans and actors in the film industry very sad. A memorial service was held for him in Chalakudy. Mani was cremated with full state honors at his home.
His Legacy
A Malayalam film called Chalakkudikkaran Changathi was released in 2018. This movie, directed by Vinayan, was based on the life of Kalabhavan Mani.
