Kalani's Early Life and Dance Journey
Kalani Hilliker was born on September 23, 2000. Her hometown is Mesa, Arizona. Her parents are Kira Girard and Matthew Hilliker. Kalani has two younger half-brothers, Jax and Jett. She also has a younger half-sister named Kaliah.
In October 2019, Kalani moved to Los Angeles. But in January 2021, she shared on her YouTube channel that she moved back to Scottsdale, Arizona.
Kalani started dancing when she was just two years old. Her mom first signed her up for dance classes because she thought it would be fun. Kalani began training seriously at Club Dance in Mesa when she was five. As a child, she also loved playing soccer. However, around age nine, she decided to focus more on dance. She even got an agent to help her find dance jobs. At age 10, she started ballet training at the Master Ballet Academy in Arizona.
In 2011, Kalani and her dance friends entered a contest. It was Disney Channel's Make Your Mark Ultimate Dance Off. The prize was a special role on the TV show Shake It Up. Kalani's group, called AKsquared, won the competition! They were featured in the Shake It Up episode "Camp It Up." At that time, Kalani dreamed of being a backup dancer for famous singers like Katy Perry or Beyonce.
Becoming a TV Star
In 2013, Kalani became a regular dancer on the ABC Family show Bunheads. She appeared in several episodes as a character called Baby Bun. That same year, she joined Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition. This was a reality TV show about dance. Kalani did very well, making it to the final four dancers and finishing in fourth place.
After her great performance, Abby Lee Miller invited Kalani and her mom to join Dance Moms. They were asked to join the Abby Lee Dance Company team. They first appeared in season four in an episode called "Big Trouble in the Big Apple." Kalani started as a guest dancer. After several weeks, she became a permanent member of the team in season five.
Kalani danced with the Abby Lee Dance Company until the second half of season seven. Then, she left to form a new group called "The Irreplaceables." She joined Nia Sioux, Kendall Vertes, Chloe Lukasiak, and Camryn Bridges. This new group was led by Cheryl Burke, a dancer from Dancing with the Stars. After the season ended, Kalani left the show completely.
In December 2017, after Dance Moms season seven finished, Kalani, Kendall, Chloe, and Nia started "The Irreplaceables Tour." They held dance workshops and performed in many cities across North America and other countries.
