Kalehenui facts for kids
Chief Kalehenui (which means "Kalehe the Great" in Hawaiian) was an important ancient Hawaiian nobleman. These noble leaders were called Aliʻi. Kalehenui lived on the island of Oahu and had family roots from Tahiti.
Chief Kalehenui: An Ancient Hawaiian Leader
Kalehenui was the son of a powerful wizard named Maweke. His father was a chief of the highest rank. Kalehenui's mother was Naiolaukea. He had two brothers, Mulielealiʻi and Keaunui. His brother Keaunui later became the father of a very important chiefess named Nuakea from the island of Molokai.
Ruling the Koʻolau Range
Chief Kalehenui was given control over the Koʻolau Range on Oahu. His father, Maweke, gave him this important responsibility. This made Kalehenui a ruler in that area.
Marriage and Descendants
Kalehenui married a woman named Kahinao. Her name is sometimes also written as Kahinalo or Kahinalu. They had one known child, a daughter named Princess Hinakaimauliʻawa. She was named after the Hawaiian goddess Hina. Kalehenui's grandchild was Princess Mualani.
