Kamala Laxman was a talented Indian author. She wrote many wonderful books especially for children. Kamala was also the wife of the famous cartoonist R. K. Laxman. She passed away in 2015 when she was 90 years old. Kamala is remembered by her son Srinivas, her daughter-in-law Usha, and her granddaughter Rimanika.

Kamala Laxman's Early Life and Education

Kamala Laxman was born in a city called Chennai in India. She went to school at St Thomas' Convent. Later, she studied at Indraprastha College for Women in Delhi. Kamala also earned a special degree. This degree was in Interior Decoration from the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai.

Her Career as a Children's Author

Kamala had a special gift for writing. Because of her talent, a company called India Book House asked her to write books. This happened in the 1970s. She wrote many popular children's stories.

Some of her most famous books include The Thama Stories. She also wrote Raman of Tenali & Other Stories. Another well-known book was Thama and His Missing Mother. Her husband, R. K. Laxman, often drew the pictures for her books. Their stories were so popular that they were even shown on Indian TV. The TV station Doordarshan turned them into a series.

Kamala Laxman's Personal Life

Kamala Laxman was married to the well-known cartoonist R. K. Laxman. She was also very active in her community. Kamala was the life president of the Mahalakshmi Ladies' Club. Her mother started this club in 1965 in Mumbai.
