Band History
How Kana-Boon Started (2006–2013)
The band first came together in 2006. They were part of a light music club at Izumisougou Senior High School in Sakai, Osaka, Japan. They officially formed as a band in 2008.
Maguro Taniguchi first asked Takahiro Koizumi to join the club. Later, Hayato Koga and Yuuma Meshida also joined. The band's name comes from a popular internet slang term. They started playing live shows in Osaka in 2010. In 2011, bassist Hiroaki Hirose left the band, and Yuuma Meshida took his place. In December 2011, the band won a special award called the eo Music Try prize.
In April 2012, Kana-Boon won the Ki/oon 20 Years Audition. They beat 4000 other bands! After winning, they got to open for the famous band Asian Kung-Fu Generation. On April 13, 2013, they released their first music video, "Naimononedari". They also announced their first album, Boku ga CD o dashitara. It came out on April 24, 2013, and did very well, reaching 14th place on the Oricon Charts.
Becoming a Major Band (2013–Present)
On August 5, 2013, Kana-Boon announced they had signed with a big record label, Ki/oon Music. This was their major debut! They released their first major single, "Jousha Hissui No Kotowari, Okotowari", and their first major album, Doppel.
A song from their album, "1.2. step to you", was used in commercials for Docomo in April 2014. On February 26, 2014, they released their second single, "Kesshōsei". It was a new version of an older song. On May 21, 2014, their third single, "Full Drive", came out. It was their most successful single, reaching 6th place on the Oricon Charts.
Their fifth single, "Silhouette", became the 16th opening theme for the anime series Naruto: Shippuden. It was released on November 26, 2014. In December 2014, the band announced their second album, Time, which came out on January 21, 2015.
In 2015, their sixth single, "Nandemonedari", was used in commercials for Shiseido cosmetics. Their seventh single, "Diver", became the theme song for the anime movie Boruto: Naruto the Movie. Another song, "Spiral", was used for the video game Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4. "Diver" was released on August 5, 2015.
Later in 2015, Kana-Boon performed the opening song "talking" for the anime series The Perfect Insider. This song was a new version of their 2013 single "Kuchi o tozashite". They released it as a "split single" with another band called Scenarioart. They have also released other albums like Origin (2016), Namida (2017), and Honey & Darling (2022).
