About Kao Yu-ting
Kao Yu-ting was born in Taipei County, Taiwan, on March 28, 1985. She grew up in Taipei. She went to Taipei Municipal Da-An Vocational High School. Later, she studied aeronautical engineering at the National Huwei Institute of Technology. She also earned a master's degree in electrical engineering. This was from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Before she started her work in politics, Kao worked at the Industrial Technology Research Institute.
Her Journey in Politics
After the Sunflower Student Movement, Kao Yu-ting joined a group called Taiwan March. In 2015, she became a member of the New Power Party. She ran for a seat in the Legislative Yuan in 2020. This was for the Hsinchu City Constituency. Even though she did not win, her campaign had support from Wu Nien-jen.
In August 2020, many leaders of the New Power Party resigned. Kao Yu-ting was then chosen to join the party's executive council. She received the second-highest number of votes. On August 29, 2020, she became the leader of the party.
Kao announced on November 3, 2020, that she would step down as chair. She said her goal was to help the party improve. Since that goal was met, she felt it was time to resign. She also felt pressure to plan for the 2022 elections. She believed a new leader would be better for this task. Chen Jiau-hua took over as party leader on November 10, 2020.
