Anna Karin Larsson (born 30 August 1941 – died 21 September 2019) was a talented Swedish swimmer. She was also known as Ahlström after she got married. Karin competed in big swimming events around the world.
Karin Larsson's Swimming Career
Karin Larsson was a strong swimmer who represented Sweden in international competitions. She was especially good at freestyle events.
European Championship Success
In 1958, Karin Larsson achieved a great success at the 1958 European Aquatics Championships held in Budapest. She won a bronze medal as part of the Swedish team in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay race. A relay race is when a team of swimmers each swim a part of the total distance.
Olympic Games Appearances
Karin Larsson also competed in the Olympic Games, which is the biggest sports event in the world. She took part in two different Olympic Games.
- At the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, she competed in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay. Her team finished in sixth place.
- Four years later, at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy, she again competed in the same event. Her team also finished sixth there.
She also swam in individual races, like the 100 meter and 400 meter freestyle events. In these races, she was eliminated in the early rounds, known as the preliminaries.
