Her Amazing Career
Karla-Sue Marriott started her journey by getting a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. After that, she worked as a forensic officer for the government of Jamaica. She helped solve mysteries in the biology department of their forensic science lab.
In 2001, she earned her Ph.D. in chemistry, also from the University of the West Indies. Then, she moved to Clemson University as a research fellow. There, she worked on creating special chemicals for medical research.
Teaching and Innovation
Dr. Marriott created the Bachelor of Forensic Science Program at Savannah State University. She led this program for ten years, from 2011 to 2021. She also served as the temporary head of the Chemistry and Forensic Science department.
In 2016, she set up an awesome 3-D Virtual Reality (VR) crime scene lab. This special lab helps college students practice investigating crime scenes in a safe, virtual world. Her research also looks into developing new medicines for problems with the immune system and brain conditions.

- 2013: Chosen as an "Emerging Scholar" by Diverse Issues in Higher Education.

- 2017: The first-ever President's Faculty Award for Innovation and Excellence from Savannah State University.

- 2019: Presented her work on "Forensic Facial Reconstruction" to the USG Board of Regents.
- 2019: President's Leadership & Service Award from Savannah State University.

- 2019: Received the Paul Harris Fellowship for her research on Alzheimer's disease.
In the News
In 2018, Dr. Marriott gave a talk at TEDxSavannah, sharing her ideas with a big audience. In 2020, she was featured on GPB News (Georgia Public Broadcasting) for her work on a faster machine that can sequence DNA. This means it can read the genetic code much quicker!
Personal Life
Karla-Sue Marriott was born in Jamaica and grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. She is also a talented artist! She taught herself how to paint nature scenes using acrylic, oil, and mixed media. Her artwork has been shown in galleries, like the Raw Image Barbershop & Studio in Savannah.
