Early Life and Amateur Golf

Karrie Webb was born in Ayr, Queensland, Australia. She loved golf from a young age. She was part of the Australian Amateur team from 1992 to 1994. In 1994, she became the Australian Stroke Play Champion. This was a big win for her as an amateur player.

Becoming a Professional Golfer

Karrie started her professional golf journey in 1994. She played on the Ladies European Tour. She also played on the Futures Tour in the U.S., where she won a tournament. In 1995, she made history. She became the youngest winner ever of the Weetabix Women's British Open. This was during her first year as a pro in Europe. She was even named the European Rookie of the Year.

She joined the LPGA Tour in 1996. She finished second in a big qualifying tournament. This was amazing because she played with a broken bone in her wrist!

LPGA Tour Success

In 1996, Karrie won her first LPGA tournament. It was the HealthSouth Inaugural. She won after a sudden-death playoff. She won three more tournaments that year. She was the first LPGA player to earn over $1 million in one season! She also won the 1996 LPGA Rookie of the Year award.

The year 2000 was huge for Karrie. She won two more major championships. First, she won the Nabisco Championship. Then, she won the U.S. Women's Open. She won the Player of the Year award again. She also won the Vare Trophy again. She even took a break to carry the Olympic torch in Australia! That year, she also won the Women's World Cup for Australia.

In 2001, she won the U.S. Women's Open again. She also won the LPGA Championship. This made her the youngest player to achieve the LPGA Career Grand Slam. This means she won all five major championships available at the time.

In 2002, Karrie won the Women's British Open. This tournament became an LPGA major in 2001. By winning it, she completed a "Super Career Grand Slam." This means she won every major championship available in women's golf during her career.

Hall of Fame and Comeback

Karrie qualified for the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2000. But she had to play in ten LPGA Tour seasons first. She met this goal in 2005. At 30 years old, she became the youngest living person to join the Hall of Fame!
