David Wallace III (born December 16, 2004), known as Kashdami (or KA$HDAMI), is an American rapper from Prince George County, Maryland. He is known for his unique music style, which mixes strong beats with catchy parts and clever words.

He first became popular in 2020 with his song "Kappin Up." This song later got a music video from WorldStar. In 2021, he became even more popular on TikTok with his songs "Reparations," "Look N The Mirror," and "14." The song "14" also featured rapper tana. These songs helped Kashdami gain many followers on SoundCloud and TikTok. They also helped make the Plugg music style more widely known. He released his first big album, epiphany, in June 2021.

Early Life of Kashdami

David Wallace III was born on December 16, 2004, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He learned about music early on from his father. His father had a home music studio and worked with famous artists like Ne-Yo. Kashdami's father passed away when David was seven years old. Around the same time, his mother became ill. Because of these challenges, his mother moved to Southeast (Washington, D.C.) to be closer to family. Kashdami also has a twin sister.

Wallace recorded his first song in his uncle's studio in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He later moved to Rosaryville, Maryland for elementary school. However, he moved again because his family did not have a stable home. Wallace went to King George High School.

Wallace started missing school because he had problems with his teachers. He once said on social media that school felt like "a waste of purpose." He later left public school and finished his studies through an online school.

Music Career

2018: Starting Out

Wallace began making music when he was eight years old. He would record freestyles using a video chat app called ooVoo. When he was thirteen, a friend gave him a Blue Snowball microphone. He then started recording music on his mother's computer using a free program called Audacity (audio editor). At thirteen, he also started his own company called "KA$HWAYZ." Later that year, Wallace joined a music group called hvmor, which was started by redveil. They released a group project together in January 2019. He released the songs Kappin Up and Tryn' Blitz in 2018. After this, he felt discouraged and took a break from music.

2020: Becoming Popular

Wallace returned to music when his song "Kappin Up" became very popular on TikTok in 2020. This happened because of the #phonekeepmoving dance challenge. The hashtag received over a billion views. Famous people like Bronny James, Shareef O'Neal, and Tory Lanez joined the challenge. Later that year, the song got a music video from WorldStarHipHop.

With new energy, Wallace released his first mixtape, #KashDontMiss, on October 15, 2020. This project helped his online fanbase grow. On October 23, 2020, he worked with rising artist SoFaygo on their song Laser Tag. Later that year, he released his first "birthday project" called 16. This project featured redveil and BoofPaxkMooky, who were some of his first music partners.

Music Style

Influences

Wallace has often said that he was inspired by the "plug era" of music from the 2010s. He was also influenced by gospel music because he grew up going to church. In an interview, he mentioned that if it wasn't for Famous Dex's song No Reason, he might not have found his unique sound. Wallace also gives credit to other artists like Mexikodro, Lil Wayne, Playboi Carti, Chief Keef, and Logic.

Wallace wears sunglasses because he was influenced by will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas when he was a kid.

Flow and Ad-libs

KA$HDAMI's music style is often called melodic trap or melodic plug. His sound has smooth harmonies and clever lyrics about guns. These are often set over a beautiful, video-game-like beat. His early songs were often like diss tracks. But Wallace slowly changed his style to be more like R&B with catchy parts. Wallace also uses funny, dark humor in his songs to make them feel less serious. An example is in his hit song Reparations: "White hoe, Reparations...".

Wallace is also known for his high-pitched voice changes. You can hear this in songs like Want! and $umn$light.

Wallace is recognized for his special sounds, called ad-libs, like "Fa Fa, Fbeeeee". These sounds copy two gunshots and a money counting machine. Wallace says he was inspired by Chief Keef and Tay K when he created his ad-lib. The mix of his ad-libs, melodic voice, and calm beats creates a sweet and fresh sound. Many people in the underground music scene call this special style the "Dami Flow." Many new artists have copied this style.

Personal Life

Wallace is of Bantu, African American, and Cherokee heritage. He is also directly related to the family from the famous Loving v. Virginia court case.

In early 2021, Wallace survived a house fire that started in his room.

In 2022, he briefly dated Talyeh Galvez, a TikTok star known for her dance and art videos.

In 2023, Wallace had a small accident where his sweater caught fire from a candle while meeting Brent Faiyaz. He didn't realize he was on fire at first. Wallace did not have any serious injuries.

Wallace is reported to be 6 feet 2 inches (188 cm) tall as of 2025.
