Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe (born August 26, 2002), known as Lil Tecca, is an American rapper and singer. He became famous in 2019 with his song "Ransom". This song reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

After "Ransom," he released his first mixtape, We Love You Tecca (2019). It also did very well, reaching number four on the Billboard 200 album chart. His first studio album, Virgo World (2020), reached number ten on the same chart. His later albums, We Love You Tecca 2 (2021) and Tec (2023), also charted high. Some of his songs, like "Never Left" and "500lbs", have sold millions of copies. His fourth album, Plan A, came out in 2024, and his fifth, Dopamine, was released in 2025.

Growing Up

Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe was born on August 26, 2002, in Queens, New York. His parents came from Jamaica. He grew up in Queens, which is a very diverse part of New York City. Later, his family moved to Cedarhurst on Long Island.

When he was younger, Lil Tecca dreamed of playing in the NBA (National Basketball Association). But by age 12, he started focusing on music instead. He loved hip-hop and was inspired by artists like Chief Keef. He went to Lawrence High School.

Music Journey

Starting Out: 2011–2018

Lil Tecca first got interested in music when he was about 9 years old. He would rap into his microphone while playing games on Xbox with his friends. He and his friends even made "diss tracks" about each other, which are songs where they playfully make fun of one another. Tecca uploaded some of these early songs to SoundCloud.

His first song that got noticed was "Tectri" in 2017, which he made with another artist named Gummybear. After that, he kept releasing more songs, like "Callin".

Rise to Fame: 2019–2021

In October 2018, Lil Tecca released a song called "Love Me". This song started to get attention, especially in Canada.

His career really took off with the song "Ransom". It was uploaded to Cole Bennett's popular Lyrical Lemonade YouTube channel in May 2019. Pitchfork, a music website, described the song as "trippy" and unique. "Ransom" became a huge hit, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It has been streamed over a billion times on Spotify and viewed hundreds of millions of times on YouTube.

In July 2019, Tecca released another single, "Did It Again". This song also charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Later, in August, he released a remix of "Ransom" with the famous rapper Juice Wrld. This remix was added to his first mixtape, We Love You Tecca, which came out on August 30, 2019. The mixtape was very successful, reaching number 4 on the US Billboard 200.

After his mixtape, Lil Tecca worked with other artists. He collaborated with Internet Money and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie on their song "Somebody" in October 2019. He also released his own songs like "Glo Up" and "Why You Look Mad".

In 2020, Tecca was featured on The Kid Laroi's song "Diva". He also released his own songs "IDK" and "All Star" with Lil Tjay. His debut studio album, Virgo World, was released on September 18, 2020. It included a song called "Dolly" featuring Lil Uzi Vert. In 2021, he appeared on Internet Money's song "Jetski" with Lil Mosey.

New Albums: 2022-2024

In April 2021, Lil Tecca released the single "Show Me Up". The next month, he released "Never Left", which reached number 56 on the US Billboard Hot 100. He continued to release new music, including "Money on Me" and "Repeat It" featuring Gunna.

On August 27, 2021, Tecca released his second studio album, We Love You Tecca 2. This album was a follow-up to his first mixtape and featured many guest artists like Gunna, Iann Dior, Chief Keef, and Lil Yachty. A deluxe version of the album was released a few days later. He also appeared on songs by Bankrol Hayden and 24kGoldn. After this, he went on his "Tecca Loves You Tour".

In 2022, Tecca released new singles like "Fallin", "Faster", and "Treesha". He also worked with English singer Mabel on her song "Let Love Go".

Throughout 2023, Tecca released several singles leading up to his third studio album. These included "Need Me", "500lbs", "Hvn on Earth" with Kodak Black, and "Dead or Alive". His third album, Tec, was released on September 22, 2023. It was well-received by critics and became his third album to chart high on the Billboard 200.

In May 2024, Tecca released two more songs, "Never Last" and "Number 2", along with their music videos. He also released "Taste" and "Bad Time" later that year. In September 2024, he announced his fourth studio album, Plan A, which was released on September 20. This album featured Don Toliver.

Recent Music: 2025–Present

On March 14, 2025, Lil Tecca released "Dark Thoughts", which was the first single from his upcoming fifth studio album, Dopamine. He then released a second single, "OWA OWA", on May 30.
