Mabel Alabama-Pearl McVey, born on February 19, 1996, is a talented singer and songwriter. Her parents are famous too: her dad, Cameron McVey, is a music producer, and her mom, Neneh Cherry, is a singer. Mabel became well-known in 2017 with her song "Finders Keepers," which was a Top 10 hit in the UK.
Her first album, High Expectations, came out in 2019 and reached number three on the UK charts. It included popular songs like "Don't Call Me Up", "Mad Love", and "Boyfriend". "Don't Call Me Up" was even popular in the US. In 2020, Mabel won a Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist, which is a big award for music artists in the UK. Her second album, About Last Night..., was released in 2022 and reached number two in the UK, becoming her highest-charting album.

Mabel's Early Life and Family
Mabel was born in Alhaurín el Grande, Spain, on February 19, 1996. She is the youngest child of music producer Cameron McVey and singer Neneh Cherry. Her family is full of musicians! Her step-grandfather, Don Cherry, was a jazz musician. Her aunt, Titiyo, and uncle, Eagle-Eye Cherry, are also singers. Mabel's sister, Tyson, and half-siblings, Naima and Marlon Roudette, are also singers.
When Mabel was two, her family moved to Notting Hill, London, England. At age four, she taught herself to read. However, she also started to feel anxious and was bullied because of her background. Her parents encouraged her to use music and writing to express herself. The next year, she learned piano and wrote her first song.
To help with her anxiety, her family moved to Sweden when she was eight. They lived in the countryside near Hässleholm and later moved to Stockholm. Mabel went to an international school and then to Kulturama, a school focused on music and arts. When she was 15, she attended Rytmus Musikergymnasiet, a music high school, where she studied songwriting and music theory for three years.
Mabel's Music Career
Starting Out: 2015–2018
After finishing music high school in Stockholm, Mabel moved to London. She was excited about the R&B music scene there. In July 2015, she released her first song, "Know Me Better." It quickly caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, who made it her "Tune of the Week." Soon after, Mabel signed a record deal with Universal.
In March 2017, after releasing a few more songs, Mabel released "Finders Keepers" with British rapper Kojo Funds. This song became a Top 10 hit in the UK. In May 2017, she released her first collection of songs called Bedroom.
Later in 2017, Mabel released "Begging," which was the first song from her mixtape Ivy to Roses. She also worked with artist Not3s on the song "My Lover" in December. In 2018, she released another song with Not3s called "Fine Line." After this, Mabel opened for English singer Harry Styles on his European tour. She then went on her own tour across the UK and Europe. In June, she was featured on "Ring Ring" with American rapper Rich the Kid and British DJ Jax Jones.
Big Success: 2019–2020
In January 2019, Mabel was nominated for a Brit Award for "British Breakthrough Act." She re-released Ivy to Roses with new artwork and all her recent songs. She also released "Don't Call Me Up," which became her highest-charting song, reaching number 3 in the UK. On June 7, 2019, she released "Mad Love," the second song from her first album, High Expectations, which came out on August 2. "Mad Love" reached number 8 in the UK.
"Don't Call Me Up" was also nominated for "Song of The Year" at the Swedish Radio P3 Guld Awards in 2020. In December 2019, Mabel performed at the Jingle Bell Ball, a big music event.
From January to March 2020, Mabel went on her High Expectations Tour across North America, the UK, and Europe. In February 2020, she released the song "Boyfriend." She also joined other artists to cover the Foo Fighters song "Times Like These" for charity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Later that year, Mabel worked with AJ Tracey on "West Ten" and released an acoustic version of High Expectations. In August, Clean Bandit released "Tick Tock" featuring Mabel and 24kGoldn.
New Music: 2021–Present
In June 2021, Mabel released "Let Them Know." She also released "Take It Home" for Pokémon's 25th anniversary album. In August 2021, she performed on the TV show Love Island. On October 29, 2021, Mabel and Joel Corry released "I Wish." She also recorded a cover of "Time After Time" for a McDonald's Christmas advertisement. The second song from her new album, "Good Luck," featuring Jax Jones and Galantis, came out in March 2022. Mabel's second album is called About Last Night....
In November 2021, Mabel performed at Hits Live in Liverpool. Her album About Last Night... reached number 2 on the UK Albums Chart, which is her highest-charting album so far.
In June 2023, Mabel hosted a Swedish radio show called Sommar. She shared that she was writing new songs with her brother Marlon and getting support from her parents and boyfriend. She mentioned that this new music is different from her past work. In October 2024, Mabel said she was working in Max Martin's studio with her brother.
In 2024, Mabel released new music after an 18-month break. She released "Vitamins" in April, followed by "Look at My Body, Pt. II" featuring Shygirl in May. She also received a Brits Billion Award in May. In July, she released "Female Intuition," and in August, "Chat." In October, she released "Stupid Dumb" featuring Ty Dolla Sign. She plans to release "All Over You" featuring King Promise in January 2025.
Personal Life
Mabel is dating Preye Crooks, who helps run the Strawberries & Creem Festival. His dad is Garth Crooks, a former football player and TV pundit. Mabel and Preye started dating in November 2021 and got engaged at the end of 2024.
