Marlon's Music Journey
Mattafix: The Early Years (2005–2009)
After returning to London, Marlon Roudette formed an electronic music duo called Mattafix. He teamed up with Preetesh Hirji, a producer and keyboard player. Their music blended different styles like hip hop, R&B, reggae, and soul. Mattafix even won an award at the Sopot International Song Festival in 2006.
Signs of a Struggle Album (2005–2006)
Mattafix released their first song, "11.30 (Dirtiest Trick in Town)", in January 2005. Their second song, "Big City Life", came out in August 2005. This song was a huge hit! It reached number 1 in countries like Germany, Poland, and Switzerland. It was also featured in the video game FIFA World Cup Germany 2006.
Their album, Signs of a Struggle, was well-received and helped them tour across Europe. Mattafix also performed with famous artists like Joss Stone and even opened for Sting in Italy.
Rhythm & Hymns Album (2007–2009)
In September 2007, Mattafix released "Living Darfur", the first song from their second album, Rhythm & Hymns. The music video for this song featured actor Matt Damon. It was part of a campaign to help people in Darfur. The band even filmed the video in refugee camps, making it the only music video by an international group filmed in a war zone.
Marlon explained that for Rhythm & Hymns, they wanted to capture more of their live show sound. They added live drums and influences from their travels, especially from places like Johannesburg, South Africa. The album was released in late 2007 in many countries. Mattafix also created a remix for Lady Gaga's song "Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)".
