Artist Julius Dubose (born on December 6, 1995), known as A Boogie wit da Hoodie, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He became famous for his unique style that blends singing and rapping. His stage name comes from a character named "Ace Boogie" from the 2002 movie Paid in Full. Friends also called him "A Boogie wit da Hoodie" because he often wore hoodies.

A Boogie released his first studio album, The Bigger Artist, in 2017. This album included the popular song "Drowning". His second album, Hoodie SZN (2018), reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart. He won the Best New Artist award at the BET Awards 2018. His music often features catchy melodies and honest lyrics about his life.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Artist Julius Dubose was born on December 6, 1995, in the Highbridge area of the Bronx, New York City. He grew up in Highbridge and started rapping when he was twelve years old. He was inspired by artists like Kanye West and 50 Cent.

When he was in Dewitt Clinton High School, he would practice rapping during lunch. He carried a notebook filled with rhymes he had written. He described himself as a quiet student who everyone noticed. Later, his parents sent him to Florida. While there, he was mostly at home, which gave him time to focus on his music. He even built a small studio in his apartment. After high school, he continued to work on music while also taking jobs like construction and pizza delivery.

Music Career Highlights

Starting Out (2015–2016)

A Boogie's music journey officially began with his song "Temporary" on SoundCloud. He was only 19. He met Myster Whyte, a producer who helped him record in a professional studio for the first time. A Boogie said it felt like "magic" to hear his voice sound so good.

In 2015, he moved back to New York to pursue music full-time. He teamed up with Don Q, Quincy "QP" Acheampong, and Bubba to create Highbridge the Label. They set up a home studio. In February 2016, A Boogie released his first full project, a mixtape called Artist. This mixtape helped launch his career and was recognized by Forbes magazine.

He also released a joint project with Don Q called Highbridge the Label: The Takeover Vol.1. A Boogie even opened for Drake and Future on their Summer Sixteen Tour. In July 2016, he signed a deal with Atlantic Records. Later that year, he released his first extended play (EP), TBA, which made it onto Rolling Stone magazine's list of best rap albums of 2016.

Rising to Fame (2017–2018)

In June 2017, XXL magazine named A Boogie one of their "2017 Freshman Class" artists, highlighting him as a rising star. On September 29, 2017, he released his first studio album, The Bigger Artist. It featured other popular artists like Chris Brown and Kodak Black. The song "Drowning" from this album became a big hit, reaching number 38 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

His second album, Hoodie SZN, came out on December 21, 2018. It quickly became popular, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart in January 2019. It was one of the most played albums of 2019.

New Music and Collaborations (2019–2020)

A Boogie was very busy in 2019, appearing on over 20 songs with artists like Ed Sheeran, Rick Ross, and Khalid. He also performed many concerts in the US and UK.

He released singles like "Mood Swings" and "Reply" (featuring Lil Uzi Vert) from his album Artist 2.0. This album was released on February 14, 2020, which was Valentine's Day. He chose this date because his first Artist mixtape also came out on Valentine's Day in 2016, and it was his daughter's third birthday. Artist 2.0 was a commercial success, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 chart.

Recent Projects (2021–Present)

After releasing the deluxe version of Artist 2.0, A Boogie took a break from releasing new singles for about a year. However, he still appeared on songs with artists like Pop Smoke and DJ Khaled.

In May 2021, he released "9 Bridge" with Rowdy Rebel and "24 Hours" with Lil Durk. "24 Hours" became a platinum-certified song. While working on his fourth album, some of his songs were leaked online, which caused delays.

In 2022, A Boogie lent his voice to the character Francis "KG" Leibowitz-Jenkins in the animated Disney+ series, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

His fourth studio album, Me vs. Myself, was released on December 9, 2022. It featured artists like Lil Durk and Kodak Black. The album reached number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.

In 2023, A Boogie went on his "Me vs Myself Tour," which sold out quickly. He performed in major venues and at big festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. He also contributed to the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse movie soundtrack with the song "Calling".

His fifth album, Better Off Alone, was released on May 17, 2024. Before the album, he released an EP called Alone in April 2024.

Personal Life

A Boogie wit da Hoodie is known for giving back to his community. In December 2023, a street in the Bronx, Nelson Avenue and W. 166th Street, was named "Artist (A Boogie) Dubose Drive" in his honor. He also received an award from the New York City mayor.

He has two children with his girlfriend, Ella Rodriguez. Their daughter, Melody Valentine Dubose, was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2017. Their son, Artist Dubose, Jr., was born on June 27, 2020.
