The Band's Journey
Kataklysm started making music in 1991. Their first studio album, Sorcery, came out on February 10, 1995. Their second album followed in 1996. After these first two albums, their lead singer, Sylvain Houde, left the band. Maurizio Iacono then became the new lead singer, and Stephane Barbe joined the band.
Changing Sounds and Success
Kataklysm's third album, Victims of this Fallen World, released in 1998, showed a change in their music style. However, they soon returned to their original sound with their next album, The Prophecy (Stigmata of the Immaculate), which also included some thrash metal elements.
Maurizio Iacono took vocal lessons for death metal singing. This was because he found himself losing his voice during or after the band's concerts. Their fifth album, Epic: The Poetry of War, came out in 2001. This album had a slightly more melodic approach to death metal, but it still stayed true to their core sound.
Their sixth studio album, Shadows & Dust, released in 2002, was a big success for Kataklysm. The band members consider it one of their most successful albums because it received a lot of positive attention and sold very well.
Later Albums and Member Changes
Kataklysm's seventh album, Serenity in Fire, was released in 2004. For this album, Martin Maurais temporarily played drums. The band's usual drummer, Max Duhamel, had to leave for a short time due to injuries. However, Duhamel recovered and returned to play on their eighth album, In the Arms of Devastation, which came out in 2006.
