Kate Samworth facts for kids
Catherine "Kate" Samworth (born in 1967) is a talented artist, author, and illustrator. She is known for her creative books and beautiful artwork. Her book, Aviary Wonders Inc.: Spring Catalog and Instruction Manual, won a special award called the Kirkus Prize for Young Readers in 2014. The judges said it was "one of the most creative books we have ever encountered."
Kate Samworth's art often shows nature and how people interact with it. Her travels to places like Europe, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Brazil give her many ideas for her artwork. Her book Aviary Wonders is like a catalog from a future world. In this world, some birds have become extinct. The book invites readers to look through "a charming selection of bodies and wings." Then, they can put together a realistic bird automaton, which is like a robot bird. Samworth says she learned to draw and paint by observing things closely. Education and Artworks
Samworth studied and taught painting at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. She considers Auseklis Ozols one of her important teachers. In 2010, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. There, she focused on printmaking. Today, she teaches illustration and painting. Her paintings and prints are displayed in several art collections around the world. These include the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art in Japan, the Woodmere Art Museum in the United States, and the Fundación Lolita Rubial in Uruguay.

Kate Samworth was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She grew up in the suburbs near Washington, D.C.. In the late 1980s, she played bass guitar in a band called Fire Party.
