Katherine Grant of Rothiemurchus was the 12th Countess of Dysart. She was born on June 1, 1918, and passed away on November 8, 2011, at the age of 93. She was an important member of the Scottish peerage, which is a group of noble families in Scotland.

Early Life and Family Background

Katherine was born Katherine Greaves in Wales. Her father was Major Owain Edward Whitehead Greaves. Her mother was Wenefryde Agatha Greaves.

In 1935, Katherine's mother became the 10th Countess of Dysart. This meant she held a special noble title.

Becoming a Countess

Katherine had an older sister named Lady Rosamund Agnes. When their mother passed away, Lady Rosamund became the 11th Countess of Dysart in 1975.

Lady Rosamund never married or had children. So, when she died in December 2003, the title passed to Katherine. Katherine then became the 12th Countess of Dysart. She also gained the title of Lady Huntingtower.

Marriage and Children

In 1941, Katherine married Lieutenant-Colonel John Peter Grant. He was known as the 15th Grant of Rothiemurchus. This means he was the head of the Grant family from the Rothiemurchus area.

Katherine and John had two children:

  • Lady Jane Margery Grant, born on February 2, 1943. She married Andrew Robert Fowell Buxton in 1965.
  • John Peter Grant, born on October 22, 1946. He later became the 13th Earl of Dysart. He also took over the Rothiemurchus estate. John married Philippa Chance in 1971, and they have three children.

Later Life and Legacy

The Countess Katherine Grant of Rothiemurchus passed away on November 8, 2011. She was 93 years old.

After her death, her son, John Peter Grant, became the 13th Earl of Dysart. His son, James, then became Lord Huntingtower. This shows how noble titles are passed down through families.
