Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CSR Qingdao Sifang C151B facts for kids
The Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CSR Qingdao Sifang C151B is a type of train used in Singapore. These trains are the fifth generation to run on Singapore's MRT system. You can find them on the East West Line and the North South Line.
The first C151B train started running on the North South Line on April 16, 2017. At first, these trains only operated on the North South Line. They also ran on the new Tuas West Extension of the East West Line. This was because these trains had a new signalling system. The rest of the East West Line did not have this new system yet.
From May 28, 2018, these trains could run on the entire East West Line. All 45 trains are now in use. Most of them are kept at the Tuas depot.
These trains were built by two companies: Kawasaki Heavy Industries and CSR Sifang. A total of 45 trains were made. Each train has six carriages, making 270 carriages in all. They were built in China.
The C151B was the first train to have STARiS v2.0. This is a special system that shows passengers information. It helps you know where the train is going and what the next stops are.
Train Design
The C151B trains look a bit different from older models. They are the first trains to have a white front. They also feature a smaller SMRT logo on the outside. These trains were the last ones to use SMRT's original paint design. All newer train models now use the standard design from the LTA.
How Trains Are Put Together
Each C151B train has a special 4-digit number. The first number tells you the carriage number. The second number is always '6' for these trains. The last two numbers are unique to each train set.
Every train is made up of two smaller sets of three carriages joined together. The train numbers go from 601 to 670. Sometimes, the sets are joined normally, like 601/602. Other times, they are "cross-coupled," like 603/606.
Each three-car set includes:
- Dt: This is a Driving trailer car. It has a driver's cabin.
- Mc: This is a Motor car. It has the motors that make the train move.
So, a full six-car train looks like this: Dt-Mc-Mc-Mc-Mc-Dt
For example, train set 669/670 would be made up of carriages 3669-1669-2669-2670-1670-3670.
