The Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang C151C is a modern train used in Singapore. It is the sixth type of train introduced on the East West Line and North South Line. These trains help carry many passengers across Singapore.
A total of 12 C151C trains were bought. They arrived in Singapore between 2017 and 2019. After testing, they started full service in 2019. The very first train arrived on October 27, 2017. People got to see its inside design on February 28, 2018, at the Tuas Depot.
With these new trains, the total number of trains on the North-South and East-West Lines increased. The first three C151C trains began service on September 30, 2018, on the North-South Line. More trains joined by the end of 2018, and the rest started running in early 2019.

Train Features and Design
The C151C trains have some cool new features for passengers. They are the first MRT trains on these lines to have special fold-up seats. This means seats can be folded up to create more standing space during busy times.
They also have a new Route Map Display. This digital map helps you see where the train is going and which stations are next. You can also find this display on the CT251 trains used on the Thomson-East Coast Line.
Train Appearance
The C151C trains look similar to the C151B trains, but they have a different paint job, called a livery. These trains follow the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) rules for how trains should look.
The C151C trains are black on the top and white on the bottom. A red and green stripe separates these colors. Red and green are the official colors for the North-South and East-West Lines. Unlike some older trains, the C151C trains have the LTA logo on their sides instead of the SMRT logo. Their front headlights use bright LEDs.
How Trains Are Formed
A C151C train in service is made up of six cars. This arrangement is called DT-M1-M2-M2-M1-DT.
- DT stands for Driving Trailer. These cars are at the very front and back of the train and have the driver's cabin.
- M1 and M2 are Motor cars. These cars have the motors that make the train move.
Here's a simple look at the cars:
Cars of C151C | ||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Car Type | Driver Cab | Motor | Collector Shoe | Car Length | ||||||
mm | ft in | |||||||||
DT | ✓ | ✗ | ✓ | 23,830 | 78 ft 2.2 in| | |||||
M1 | ✗ | ✓ | ✓ | 22,800 | 74 ft 9.6 in| | |||||
M2 | ✗ | ✓ | ✓ | 22,800 | 74 ft 9.6 in| |
Each car has a unique four-digit number. For example, a train set like 705/706 includes cars numbered 3705, 1705, 2705, 2706, 1706, and 3706.
- The first digit tells you the car's position in the train (3 for the first car, 1 for the second, 2 for the third).
- The second digit is always 7.
- The last two digits are the train's special identification number. A full six-car train usually has two different identification numbers, like 705 and 706.
