The language has many different tenses. For example, it can show:

  • When something will happen in the future.
  • When something is happening right now (present).
  • When something happened just a little while ago (immediate past).

  • When something happened a long time ago (distant past).
  • Even when something happened in a story or myth (mythological past).

This complex system helps speakers be very precise about time.
