Kaye Lani Rae Rafko became Miss America 1988 on September 19, 1987. Before that, she had won the Miss Michigan pageant in 1987. During the Miss America contest, she spoke about helping people through hospice services. Hospice is a special kind of care for people who are very sick. For her talent, she performed a beautiful Tahitian dance.
Her Important Work and Advocacy
After winning, Kaye Lani Rae worked hard to raise money for good causes. She became a strong supporter of nursing and hospice programs. She has traveled the world, talking to groups of doctors and nurses. She has shared her ideas in places like Malaysia, Paris, Rome, and Singapore.
