Ke'Bryan Kobe Hayes (born January 28, 1997) is an American professional baseball player. He plays as a third baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates in Major League Baseball (MLB). Ke'Bryan made his big league debut in 2020.

Early Baseball Days

Ke'Bryan Hayes grew up in Tomball, Texas. He went to Concordia Lutheran High School. While in high school, he was a great baseball player. He even decided to play college baseball at the University of Tennessee.

High School Performance

In 2015, during his last year of high school, Ke'Bryan showed off his skills. He had a batting average of .436. This means he got a hit almost half the times he tried. He also hit three home runs and helped his team score 27 runs batted in (RBI). Plus, he was fast, stealing 12 bases.

Starting His Professional Career

The Pittsburgh Pirates noticed Ke'Bryan's talent. They chose him in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft. He was the 32nd player picked overall. Instead of going to college, Ke'Bryan signed with the Pirates.

First Years in the Minors

In 2015, Ke'Bryan played for two minor league teams: the Gulf Coast League Pirates and the West Virginia Black Bears. He had a combined batting average of .308 and 20 RBI in 56 games.

The next year, 2016, he played for the West Virginia Power. He was named a South Atlantic League All-Star. He batted .263, hit six home runs, and had 37 RBI in 65 games.

In 2017, Ke'Bryan moved up to the Bradenton Marauders. He batted .278, hit two home runs, and had 43 RBI in 108 games. He was also named a Florida State League All-Star.

Moving Up the Ranks

Ke'Bryan played for the Altoona Curve in 2018. He became an Eastern League All-Star. He batted .293, hit seven home runs, and had 47 RBI in 117 games.

In 2019, he played for the West Virginia Black Bears and the Indianapolis Indians. He hit 10 home runs and had 55 RBI. After this season, the Pirates added him to their main 40-man roster. This meant he was closer to playing in the MLB.

Major League Baseball Debut

Ke'Bryan Hayes made his MLB debut on September 1, 2020. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. On the very same day, he hit his first career home run against the Chicago Cubs. He quickly showed he belonged in the big leagues.

First Full Seasons

In 2021, Ke'Bryan hit a home run in his first at-bat of the season against the Cubs. He later had to take some time off due to a wrist injury. But he came back strong. On June 11, 2021, he became the fastest Pirate player in modern history to get 20 extra-base hits. He did it one game faster than baseball legend Barry Bonds.

Ke'Bryan finished the 2021 season with a .257 batting average. He hit 6 home runs, had 38 RBI, and stole 9 bases in 96 games. He also won the Fielding Bible Award for being an excellent defensive third baseman.

Big Contract and Gold Glove

On April 7, 2022, Ke'Bryan signed a big contract with the Pirates. It was an eight-year deal worth $70 million. This showed how much the team believed in him.

On November 5, 2023, Ke'Bryan won the Rawlings Gold Glove Award. This award is given to the best defensive players at each position. He won it for third basemen in the National League. He broke a long streak by another great player, Nolan Arenado, who had won it 10 times in a row.

Family Life

Ke'Bryan comes from a baseball family. His dad, Charlie Hayes, played in MLB for 14 seasons. His older brother, Tyree, was also a pitcher in the minor leagues.
