Keeners is a small, quiet place in Butler County, Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Keeners is located on the northeast side of the Black River. This river flows through parts of Missouri and Arkansas. A major road, U.S. Route 67, passes about 1.5 miles southeast of Keeners. Also, a railway line, the Missouri Pacific Railway, runs along the west side of the community.

A Look Back at Keeners

How Keeners Got Its Name

Keeners got its name from a person named Ephraim B. Keener. He owned land in the area a long time ago. The community was named after him.

Early Days and the Post Office

A post office was opened in Keeners in 1879. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters. In 1890, the name of the post office was changed slightly to "Kenner." However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1919.

The Railroad's Role

The Missouri Pacific Railroad line was very important to Keeners. It passed right through the community. Railroads helped connect small places like Keeners to bigger towns and cities. They were used to transport goods and people across the country.
