Kelly Lin (also known as Lin Hsi-Lei) is a famous actress and model from Taiwan. She is best known for her roles in movies made in Hong Kong.

About Kelly Lin

Kelly Lin was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1973. When she was 12, her family moved to Santa Barbara, California, in the United States. She later went to the University of California, Irvine, where she studied economics. After college, Kelly wasn't sure what to do. She decided to try a career in show business back in Taiwan.

Kelly's Career Journey

Kelly first hoped to become a singer. She even made demo tapes for a record company. But soon, she started getting many offers to model for TV commercials and print ads. She became a popular model, appearing on the covers of many fashion magazines in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. She was even featured in famous international magazines like Marie Claire and VOGUE Italia.

Kelly then began acting in many Hong Kong films. She worked with well-known directors like Tsui Hark and Johnnie To. She also acted alongside big Asian stars such as Andy Lau and Stephen Chow. Because she became so successful as an actress, she decided to focus on acting instead of singing.

Returning to Acting and Film Festivals

After taking a break from movies for two years, Kelly Lin returned to acting. She starred in films like Tokyo Trial and After This Our Exile. For After This Our Exile, she was nominated for a "Best Supporting Actress" award in 2006.

In 2006, she worked with French director Olivier Assayas on the movie Boarding Gate. This film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007. She also appeared in Triangle and Mad Detective, which were also shown at big film festivals.

Her movie Sparrow, directed by Johnnie To, took three years to make. It was nominated for a "Golden Bear" award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2008. Kelly became known as the "Film Festival Queen" in Chinese entertainment. This was because she often chose to be in artistic films that were shown at festivals around the world.

New Steps and Helping Others

In 2008, Kelly Lin became the first artist to join Stellar Entertainment Ltd. This company is owned by famous actress Michelle Yeoh and film producer Terence Chang. Their goal is to help Asian artists become international stars.

Kelly is also a big supporter of good causes. She is part of the BVLGARI "Rewrite The Future - Save The Children" campaign. She also strongly supports adopting stray puppies and dogs in Taiwan.

Later, Kelly starred in films like "Written By" and the comedy "Gasp." She also appeared in the Wuxia movie Reign of Assassins with Michelle Yeoh in 2010.
