Early Life and Education
Kelly Lin was born in Taiwan in 1973. When she was 12 years old, her family moved to Santa Barbara, California, in the United States. She later went to the University of California, Irvine, where she earned a degree in economics.
After finishing college, Lin wasn't sure what she wanted to do. She decided to try to build a career in the entertainment world back in Taiwan.
Career Journey
From Singing to Stardom
At first, Lin wanted to be a singer. She even recorded some sample songs for a record company. However, she started getting many offers to be a model for TV commercials and in magazines. ..... She appeared on the covers of many top fashion magazines in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China.
Lin became a successful actress in Hong Kong films. She worked with famous directors like Tsui Hark, Patrick Tam, and Johnnie To. She also acted alongside big Asian stars like Andy Lau and Stephen Chow. Because she was so successful as an actress, she decided to focus on acting instead of singing.
Gaining International Fame
After taking a two-year break, Lin returned to acting. She starred in the movies Tokyo Trial and After This Our Exile. Her performance in After This Our Exile earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2006 Hong Kong Film Awards.
Lin also began working with international directors. She acted in the French film Boarding Gate, which was shown at the famous Cannes Film Festival in 2007. She also appeared in other movies that were shown at major film festivals, like Triangle and Mad Detective. Because she appeared in so many movies shown at festivals around the world, she became known as the "Film Festival Queen" in Chinese entertainment.
In 2008, she joined an entertainment company managed by actress Michelle Yeoh. The company's goal was to help Asian actors become famous worldwide.
Helping Others
Lin is also known for her charity work. She supports the "Rewrite The Future-Save The Children" campaign by the jewelry brand BVLGARI. This campaign helps children in need around the world. In Taiwan, she also strongly supports adopting stray dogs and puppies.
Personal Life
On March 28, 2011, Kelly Lin married a Chinese-American businessman named Chris Young. They had a quiet wedding on a beach in the Maldives. On August 31 of that year, she gave birth to their first daughter, Kaitlin.
On February 26, 2014, Lin had her second daughter, Mila.
