She became well-known for her roles in films like Cocktail (1988) and Road House (1989), where she acted alongside Patrick Swayze. She was also recognized for her acting in Drugstore Cowboy (1989) and The Beans of Egypt, Maine (1994).
On television, Kelly Lynch played Ivan Aycock in The L Word (2004–2009). She also appeared as Meg Banncock in Magic City (2012–2013). More recently, she was Deborah Hartsfield in Mr. Mercedes (2017).

Kelly Lynch was born in Golden Valley, Minnesota. Her parents are Barbara and Robert Lynch. She studied acting at the Guthrie Theater. Before becoming an actress, she worked as a flight attendant. She also worked as a model for the Elite modeling agency.
In 1980, when Kelly was 20 years old, she was in a serious car accident. Another driver was going the wrong way on a highway. Kelly was badly hurt. Her upper body went through the car's windshield. The steering wheel and dashboard crushed both of her legs. She spent about a year in the hospital recovering. Doctors almost had to remove her legs.

Kelly and her husband own a special house called the Oyler House. It is a desert home designed by architect Richard Neutra. They have owned it since 2014.
