Jackie Chan Hiu-ki, known as Kellyjackie, is a pop singer from Hong Kong. She used to be part of a band called the Royals. Her stage name, Kellyjackie, comes from combining her own name "Jackie" with the name of her favorite singer, Kelly Chen.
Early Music Journey
Kellyjackie started her music journey at 13 years old. While still in secondary school, she began sharing her own versions of popular Hong Kong songs online. After about a year, she started writing her own music. She then uploaded her first original song, Lucky Voice, and other songs to the internet.
In January 2005, she wrote a song called He Invites Me to Disneyland (他約我去迪士尼). She wrote it to help deal with the stress of her school exams, the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. Kellyjackie said the song was inspired by the classic fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. She later left college to focus on her singing career.
Rise to Fame
Kellyjackie shared her song He Invites Me to Disneyland on her band's forum and other websites. People could download it for free. Surprisingly, the song quickly became very popular online in just a few weeks. Many radio DJs also started talking about it. People were amazed by her talent, especially since she was still a student.
The song became extremely popular in Hong Kong, Macau, and Guangdong. This success led her to sign a 5-year music contract.
Disney Collaboration
To celebrate the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland, the Walt Disney Company released a special album. They invited both Kellyjackie and Kelly Chen to perform and record the song He Invites Me to Disneyland for the album.
Return to Music
After five years away from the music scene, Kellyjackie made a comeback. She had some problems with her old manager. In 2011, she signed a new 3-year contract with MusicNEXT.
