Discovering Kellys Mountain

Kellys Mountain is about 267 meters (876 feet) high. It offers a great adventure for anyone driving through. The road up the mountain is part of the Trans-Canada Highway. This highway connects many parts of Canada.

The Bras d'Or Look-Off

At the very top of Kellys Mountain, there is a special parking area. It is called the Bras d'Or Look-Off. From this spot, you can see amazing sights. You can look out over the Seal Island Bridge. You can also see the Great Bras d'Or channel. And you can spot Boularderie Island in the distance. These are all places the highway goes after you drive down the mountain.

A Tricky Turn

After driving down the eastern side of Kellys Mountain, there is a very sharp turn. This turn is called a hairpin turn. It bends back more than 180 degrees. Drivers need to be extra careful here because the road is steep before the turn.

History and Culture

The area around Kellys Mountain is rich in Scottish history. Many people from Scotland settled here long ago. At the western base of the mountain, where the climb begins, you will find The Gaelic College of Arts and Crafts. This college is in a town called Saint Anns. It helps keep Scottish Gaelic language and culture alive. Students learn about music, dance, and crafts.
