Kelvin Anderson played football in high school at New Madrid County Central. After high school, he went to Southeast Missouri State for college. There, he played college football and earned a cool nickname: "Earthquake."
Becoming a CFL Star
Kelvin Anderson started his amazing streak of 1,000-yard seasons in 1996. He joined the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL. In 2000, he played 15 games for Calgary. He ran for 1,048 yards and scored six touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. That year, he won the Eddie James Memorial Trophy as the best rusher in the Western Division.
Record-Breaking Seasons
In 2001, Kelvin Anderson was named a Western All-Star for the fifth year in a row. He was also named a CFL All-Star for the third time. He ran for a career-high 1,383 yards and scored six touchdowns. He also caught 48 passes for 433 yards and nine touchdowns.
Kelvin Anderson also played in the XFL for one season in 2001. He played for the San Francisco Demons. He led his team in rushing with 228 yards.
Moving Teams and Setting a New Record
Kelvin Anderson had played his whole CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders. But before the 2003 season, the Stampeders let him go. He then signed with the BC Lions. He followed his former coach, Wally Buono, who also left Calgary.
