Everton Kempes dos Santos Gonçalves (born August 3, 1982 – died November 28, 2016), known simply as Kempes, was a Brazilian footballer. He played as a forward, which means he was a player who mainly tries to score goals. His last team was Chapecoense.

Kempes was one of the people who sadly died when LaMia Airlines Flight 2933 crashed on November 28, 2016.

Kempes' Football Journey

Kempes was born in Carpina, Pernambuco, Brazil. When he was young, he moved to Rio de Janeiro. At 17, he joined Canto do Rio after showing great skill in a tryout.

Early Career and First Wins

He became a professional player in 2001. After playing for Nacional de Muriaé, he joined Paraná in 2004. This was a club in Brazil's top league, called Série A.

Kempes then moved to Espírito Santo state. There, he played for Estrela do Norte and Vitória. With Vitória, he won the 2006 Campeonato Capixaba, a state championship.

He also played for Sertãozinho and 15 de Novembro de Campo Bom. In July 2007, he signed with Ceará.

Playing in Top Leagues

In 2008, Kempes joined Caxias. He was their best goal scorer in the Campeonato Gaúcho that year. After this, he went on loan to Ipatinga. While there, he scored his first goal in Brazil's top league on August 10. This goal helped his team win against Fluminense.

In January 2009, Kempes joined Criciúma.

Moving to Portuguesa and Loans

On June 4, 2009, Kempes moved to Portuguesa. He didn't play as much as expected there. So, he was loaned out to several other teams. These included Novo Hamburgo, Ceará, América Mineiro, and Cerezo Osaka in Japan.

In February 2013, he permanently joined JEF United Chiba, another Japanese club.

Return to Brazil and Chapecoense

Kempes came back to Brazil in March 2015. He signed with Joinville. Then, in December 2015, he joined Chapecoense. This team was from the same state.
