The Birpai (also known as Birrbay) people are the traditional owners of this land. They have lived in this area for over 40,000 years.

Kendall was first called Camden Heads because it's located on the Camden Haven River. In 1891, the town was renamed Kendall. This was done to honour a famous Australian poet named Henry Kendall. He lived in the area from 1875 to 1881. During that time, he was the first Forest Inspector for New South Wales. Some people mistakenly think the town is named after a place in England, but it's all about the poet!
