Kenji Haneda (羽田 憲司, Haneda Kenji, born December 1, 1981) is a former Japanese football (soccer) player. He was known for playing as a defender or midfielder. After his playing career, he became a coach. He is currently an assistant coach for the Japan U23 team.

Playing Career Highlights

Kenji Haneda was born in Ichikawa, Chiba, Japan, on December 1, 1981. He started his professional football journey after finishing high school. He played for several well-known clubs in Japan.

Club Football Journey

Haneda joined Kashima Antlers in 2000. He played as a center back, which is a defender who plays in the middle of the field. During his time there, he faced some challenges with injuries. Also, there were many other strong defenders on the team.

In 2007, he moved to Cerezo Osaka, a club in the J2 League. Here, he played a lot of matches as a defensive midfielder. This player helps protect the defense and also starts attacks. In 2009, he became a regular player for Cerezo Osaka. That year, his team played very well and was promoted to the J1 League, which is the top football league in Japan.

Haneda then joined Vissel Kobe in 2011. Unfortunately, he had more injuries there. He found it hard to play many games. He decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2012 season.

Representing Japan

Kenji Haneda also played for his country. In June 2001, he was chosen to be part of the Japan U-20 national team. He played in the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship. This is a big tournament for young players from around the world.

Haneda was the captain of the team during this tournament. He played every minute of all three matches as a center back. He showed great leadership and skill on the field.
