History of Kennard

Kennard started as a village in 1869. This was when the Sioux City & Pacific Railroad built its tracks to this spot. The village was named after Thomas P. Kennard. He was the very first Secretary of State for Nebraska. Kennard officially became an incorporated town in 1895.
