History of Kennard
Kennard started as a village in 1869. This was when the Sioux City & Pacific Railroad built its tracks to this spot. The village was named after Thomas P. Kennard. He was the very first Secretary of State for Nebraska. Kennard officially became an incorporated town in 1895.

Kennard has seen its population change over the years. In 1900, about 275 people lived there. By 1920, the population had grown to 363. It then went down a bit before growing again. In 2010, there were 361 people living in the village. The most recent count in 2020 showed 381 residents.
