A Look Back: Kenneth City's History

Kenneth City was started in 1957 by a local builder named Sidney Colen. He decided to name the town after his son, Kenneth Wong.

For many years, the town had a "strong mayor" system of government. This meant the mayor had a lot of power. But in 2013, the town made a change. They voted to switch to a "council-manager" government. In this system, the town council makes the big decisions, and a hired town manager handles the day-to-day running of the town.

After this change, Kenneth City hired its first town manager in 2014. The town then worked to improve its image and become more recognized among the 23 other towns and cities in Pinellas County.
