Kennington is a small town in the Southland area of New Zealand. It's located on the South Island, near the Waihopai River. Kennington is just outside the city of Invercargill. Other small places nearby include Longbush, Myross Bush, Motu Rimu, and Woodlands.
A major road, State Highway 1, goes right through Kennington. A railway line, part of the South Island Main Trunk Railway, also passes by. Passenger trains used to stop here, but they haven't run since 2002.
In the early 2000s, there was a plan to build a large incinerator in Kennington. An incinerator is a place that burns waste. Many local people were worried about possible air and water pollution from it. Because of these concerns, the plan was eventually stopped.
