Kent Lake is a large lake in Michigan, United States. It's not a natural lake, but a special type called a reservoir. A reservoir is like a big, artificial lake created by building a dam across a river. Kent Lake was formed by damming the Huron River. It covers about 1,200 acres, which is like 900 football fields!
Most of Kent Lake is in Oakland County, Michigan, specifically in Milford and Lyon Townships. A smaller part, including the dam, is in Livingston County, Michigan.
How Kent Lake Was Made
Kent Lake was created to be a fun place for people to visit and enjoy outdoor activities. Before the dam was built, it was a much smaller natural lake, only about 70 acres big. In 1946, the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority built a dam. This dam held back the river's water, making the lake much larger.
Today, Kent Lake is completely inside two popular parks: Kensington Metropark and Island Lake State Recreation Area. This means it's a great spot for recreation. To keep everyone safe, boats on Kent Lake have a maximum speed limit of 10 miles per hour.
Fish You Can Find in Kent Lake
Kent Lake is home to many different kinds of fish. If you enjoy fishing, you might catch some of these species:
