Kenta Tokushige (徳重 健太, Tokushige Kenta, born March 9, 1984) is a Japanese football player. He plays as a goalkeeper for Ehime FC.

Kenta Tokushige's Football Journey

Kenta Tokushige was born in Kagoshima, Japan, on March 9, 1984. He grew up loving football and became a talented goalkeeper. After finishing high school, he started his professional career.

Early Career with Urawa Reds

In 2002, Kenta joined Urawa Reds, a big club in Japan's top football league, the J1 League. Even though he was a promising young player, it was tough to get playing time. There were other experienced goalkeepers ahead of him.

Loan to Cerezo Osaka

To gain more experience, Kenta was loaned to Cerezo Osaka in October 2004. He played his first professional game for them on November 23. This was his only match for Cerezo Osaka before he returned to Urawa Reds in 2005. He still found it hard to play regularly at Urawa Reds.

Time at Vissel Kobe

In August 2005, Kenta moved to Vissel Kobe. He played some matches each season, but he was often a backup goalkeeper. In 2010, a new coach, Masahiro Wada, gave him a chance. Kenta became the main goalkeeper and played in all 34 league matches during the 2011 season.

Ups and Downs with Vissel Kobe

At the end of the 2012 season, Vissel Kobe was moved down to the J2 League, which is Japan's second division. Kenta briefly lost his starting spot in 2013. However, he worked hard and became the main goalkeeper again in June. Vissel Kobe then earned promotion back to the J1 League the very next year! From 2014 onwards, he faced strong competition from other goalkeepers and played fewer games.

Moving to V-Varen Nagasaki

In 2018, Kenta joined V-Varen Nagasaki, a team that had just been promoted to the J1 League. He became their regular goalkeeper. Unfortunately, V-Varen Nagasaki was moved down to the J2 League at the end of the 2018 season.

Playing for Ehime FC

Since 2022, Kenta Tokushige has been playing for Ehime FC. He continues to be an important part of their team as a goalkeeper.

Representing Japan

Kenta Tokushige also had the honor of playing for his country. In September 2001, he was chosen for the Japan U-17 national team. He played in all three matches for Japan in the 2001 U-17 World Championship.

Career Highlights

Throughout his career, Kenta Tokushige has played in many professional football matches. He has played over 200 games in total for various clubs in Japan's J1 and J2 Leagues, as well as in cup competitions like the Emperor's Cup and J.League Cup.
