Kermit Romeo Erasmus is a talented South African football player. He was born on July 8, 1990. He plays as a striker, which means he's usually focused on scoring goals. Currently, he plays for Casric Stars and also represents the South Africa national team.

Kermit grew up in Port Elizabeth and later moved to Pretoria. He started his professional football journey with SuperSport United in 2007 when he was a teenager. After that, he spent two seasons playing in the Netherlands for Feyenoord and Excelsior.

He then returned to SuperSport United, where he played over 50 games and helped his team win the Nedbank Cup. In 2013, he joined Orlando Pirates and led them to another Nedbank Cup title in 2014. The following year, he moved to France to play for Rennes.

Kermit faced some challenges at Rennes. After a short time on loan at Lens, he left the club. In 2018, he played in Sweden for Eskilstuna and then in Portugal for Vitória de Setúbal.

Kermit's Football Journey

Starting Out at SuperSport United

Kermit Erasmus learned his football skills at the SuperSport Feyenoord Academy. This academy is now known as the SuperSport United Youth Academy. He joined Feyenoord but stayed with SuperSport United for the 2007–08 season. During that time, he played 10 games and scored one goal. SuperSport United won their first ever PSL title that season.

Playing in the Netherlands

On May 29, 2008, Feyenoord, a top Dutch team, announced they had signed Kermit Erasmus. He joined them from their partner club, SuperSport United, on a three-year deal. He wore the number 15 jersey for the 2008–09 season. He played only four games for Feyenoord.

In July 2009, it was announced that Kermit would go on loan to Excelsior. This team was in the Eerste Divisie, which is the second division in the Netherlands. Kermit and six other Feyenoord players were loaned to Excelsior. This happened because of a new partnership between the two Rotterdam-based clubs.

Loan Spell at Excelsior

Kermit made his debut for Excelsior on August 8. He scored a late goal that helped his team draw 2–2 against Telstar. By the end of the season, Kermit had scored 12 goals in 30 games while on loan at Excelsior. He did not go back to Feyenoord after this. During his time in the Netherlands, Kermit was nominated for an award called the "2009 CAF Most Promising Talent of the Year." However, he did not win it.

Back to SuperSport United

On July 10, 2010, Kermit Erasmus returned to South Africa. He rejoined SuperSport United after his time in the Netherlands. Eleven days later, he played his second game for SuperSport United. He scored a "sensational strike" in a game against Moroka Swallows in the MTN 8 cup.

On May 26, 2012, Kermit scored the second goal in SuperSport United's 2–0 win. This was against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final. He left SuperSport United at the end of the next season. He had played over 50 league games during his second time with the club.

Time with Orlando Pirates

On July 23, 2013, Orlando Pirates confirmed they had signed Kermit Erasmus. The next day, Pirates asked CAF to register Kermit for the CAF Champions League. However, this request was denied. This was because Kermit had already played for SuperSport United in the CAF Confederations Cup earlier that season. CAF rules say a player can only play for one club in their competitions during a season.

The 2014–15 season was Kermit's best time with Orlando Pirates. He scored 10 goals in the PSL, which was his highest number of goals in a season. He also scored his first professional hat-trick on May 2. This was in a 3–0 win against Gabonese team CF Mounana in the CAF Confederations Cup. Kermit finished the season strongly on May 17. He scored two goals to help Orlando Pirates win 3–1 against Bidvest Wits and lift the 2014 Nedbank Cup.

On January 8, 2016, Kermit Erasmus was chosen for the 18-man CAF Team of the Year. He was also nominated for the "2015 CAF African-based African Player of the Year" award. Eight days later, he scored a late goal in a 3–3 draw against Maritzburg United. This was his last goal for Orlando Pirates. The following week, he moved to France to play for Rennes.

Playing in France with Rennes

On January 28, 2016, Kermit Erasmus signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Stade Rennais, a club in France's top league, Ligue 1. He played his first game for the club on March 13. He came on as a substitute in the 80th minute in a 2–2 draw against Lyon. His only other game that season was on the last day, a 2–1 loss to Bastia. Rennes finished eighth in Ligue 1 that year. He played his first game of the next season in Rennes' opening match.

Loan to Lens

On January 21, 2017, Kermit Erasmus joined RC Lens in Ligue 2 (the second division in France) on loan for the rest of the season. He scored one goal in 12 league games for the club. This goal came on the final day of the season. Lens just missed out on getting promoted to the top league. He returned to Rennes after the loan. By February 2018, he had not played any more games and was released by the club.

Later Career Moves

On March 26, 2018, Kermit Erasmus signed a two-year deal with AFC Eskilstuna in Sweden. This team had just been moved down to Superettan, Sweden's second division. He played 11 league games for them and scored two goals.

On August 17, 2018, he moved to the Portuguese club Vitória de Setúbal in the Primeira Liga. On December 18, 2018, Erasmus signed for Cape Town City in the South African PSL.

On September 23, 2022, Orlando Pirates confirmed that Kermit Erasmus had returned to the club. He signed a two-year deal after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns. As of 2025, he plays for Casric Stars.

Playing for South Africa

Youth Team

Kermit Erasmus played for the South Africa U-20 team. He played in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. He scored three goals during that tournament.

Senior National Team

Kermit was first called up to the senior national team in March 2008 for a friendly game against Zimbabwe. If he had played, he would have been the youngest player ever to play for South Africa's senior team. However, he did not play that day. He had to wait until September 4, 2010, to make his debut. He came on as a substitute against Niger in a 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Kermit waited three more years to score his first goal for South Africa. He finally scored in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Botswana on September 7, 2013.
