Playing Career
Starting at Arsenal
Kerrea Gilbert was born in Willesden, London. He grew up playing in Arsenal's youth and reserve teams. In the 2005–06 season, he got a chance to play for the main team. This happened because some of Arsenal's regular defenders were injured.
Gilbert played his first game for Arsenal on November 29, 2005. It was a League Cup match against Reading. A few days later, on December 7, he played in a big UEFA Champions League game against Ajax Amsterdam. He came on as a substitute when another player got hurt.
Because of the injuries, Gilbert kept playing more games. He started in an FA Cup match against Cardiff City in January 2006. People noticed his speed during these games. He then made his Premier League debut on January 21, 2006, against Everton.
