The Town of Kersey is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado, in the United States. It's known as a Statutory Town, which means it follows certain rules set by the state. In 2020, about 1,495 people lived there.

The History of Kersey

Kersey has an interesting past! In the 1830s, a man named Elbridge Gerry set up a trading post. This post was called Fort Gerry. It was located near the South Platte River. People would trade goods there.

In 1840, Gerry moved his trading post. He built a new one on the south side of the river. Some say he was the first white person to settle in this area. This area is now known as Weld County.

The town got its name later. A post office opened in Kersey in 1894. A railroad official named the town after his mother's maiden name.
