Kevin Bludso's Early Life and Barbecue Roots
Kevin Bludso was born in 1965 in Compton, California. His dad was a police officer, and his mom worked for the postal service.
When he was a kid, Kevin spent summer vacations with his aunt, Willie Mae Fields, in Corsicana, Texas. She taught him all about Texas-style barbecue. By the time he was 9 or 10, he was helping her cook! He later studied business at Bishop College in Dallas.
Kevin Bludso's Journey to Becoming a Chef
Before becoming a chef, Kevin Bludso worked for 13 years as a correctional officer, which is like a guard in a prison.
In 2008, he opened his first restaurant, Bludso's BBQ, in Compton. He was the "pitmaster," meaning he was in charge of all the barbecue cooking. This restaurant closed in 2016.
Kevin also owns other restaurants in Hollywood, California, and even in Melbourne, Australia. Since 2020, you can see him as a judge on the Netflix show The American Barbecue Showdown.
