Kevin McKidd's Early Life
Kevin McKidd was born in Elgin, Moray, Scotland, on August 9, 1973. His mother, Kathleen, was a secretary, and his father, Neil, was a plumber. He grew up in Elgin and went to Seafield Primary School and Elgin Academy.
When he was 17, Kevin worked at the Macallan distillery. He also joined a local acting group called Moray Youth Theatre. He first planned to study engineering at the University of Edinburgh. But he later decided to try out for drama school at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, where he was accepted. He also joined a comedy group called The Improverts at the University of Edinburgh.
Kevin McKidd's Acting Career
After his role in Trainspotting, Kevin McKidd took on many different parts. He appeared in the Christmas episode of Father Ted in 1996. He also played Malky Johnson in Small Faces.
In 1999, he was part of the movie Topsy Turvy. In this film, actors researched their historical characters to help create the dialogue. Kevin McKidd, like the other actors, did his own singing for the musical parts.
He was in the film Understanding Jane in 2001. He also appeared in Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott. In 2002, he was in the movie Nicholas Nickleby. He played Pte Lawrence Cooper in the horror film Dog Soldiers. In the 2005 BBC drama The Virgin Queen, he played Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk.
One of his most famous early roles was in the HBO/BBC series Rome. He played the soldier Lucius Vorenus. His acting in this role was highly praised.

In 2012, he voiced Lord MacGuffin and his son Young MacGuffin in the Disney/Pixar film Brave. Kevin grew up in Elgin, Scotland, and used a special Scottish accent called the Doric dialect for Young MacGuffin.
