Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Kevin Michael grew up in Chester, Pennsylvania. His family background, with parents of different races, was important to him. It even became a message he shared in his music later on.

Kevin taught himself how to sing. He has an amazing voice that can reach many different notes. Some of his biggest musical heroes are Prince, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder. When he was just 16 years old, he wrote his first song. He loves writing music just as much as he loves singing it!

Kevin Michael's Music Career

When Kevin was a teenager, big music companies like Virgin Records and Columbia Records noticed his talent. But he decided to sign with Atlantic Records and their Downtown Records group.

First Songs and EPs

His first collection of songs, called an EP (which is shorter than a full album), was named Ya Dig?. It was available only on iTunes. One of his early popular songs, "We All Want The Same Thing," was even chosen as the "Single of the Week" on the iTunes Store in 2007. This song featured the rapper Lupe Fiasco. It was also used in a Verizon Wireless commercial!

Kevin Michael's first official song from his full album was "It Don't Make Any Difference." This song was produced by and featured the famous musician Wyclef Jean. In the song, Kevin sings about relationships between people of different backgrounds. He also shares his own experience of being biracial. A music video for the song was filmed in Brooklyn, New York, and was popular on MTV and VH1 Soul.

Live Performances and Tours

Kevin Michael performed at the Lollapalooza concert in Chicago in 2007. People really liked his performance. They said he was a "young singer with a towering afro and a voice that mixes the soulful side of Michael Jackson with a hip-hop edge." He also performed at MTV's 2007 Video Music Awards in Las Vegas.

His first album, Kevin Michael, came out on October 2, 2007. After that, he went on tours with other popular artists like Lily Allen and Maroon 5 in 2007. In 2008, he toured with John Legend.
