Khow suey is a delicious and popular noodle soup that comes from Myanmar, also known as Burma. It's made with egg noodles and a tasty curry sauce. This sauce usually has beef or chicken and is made creamy with coconut milk.
What makes Khow suey special are the many different toppings, called condiments, that you can add. These toppings give the dish lots of interesting textures and flavors. A little squeeze of lemon juice also adds a fresh, tangy taste. Khow suey is quite similar to another Burmese noodle dish called ohn no khauk swe, which means 'coconut milk noodles'.
The Story of Khow Suey
Khow suey, originally known as Ohn no khao swè, started in Myanmar. Over time, this wonderful dish traveled to other parts of the world. It became very popular with the Memon community in Pakistan.
This happened around the 1960s. Many people from South Asia, including the Memon community, moved from Burma to Pakistan. They brought their favorite recipes with them. The Memon people then made the dish their own, and it became a special part of their food culture. Today, it's known as khausa in their community.
