Ki-Ke-In facts for kids

Ki-Ke-In, also known as Chuuchkamalthnii, Haa'yuups, and Ron Hamilton, is a very important cultural figure. He is from the Nuu-chah-nulth people, part of the Hupacasath First Nation in British Columbia, Canada. Ki-Ke-In is an amazing artist who uses many different ways to share his culture. He lives in Port Alberni.

Ki-Ke-In's Art and Culture

Ki-Ke-In creates many kinds of art. His work includes sculptures, drawings, and paintings. He also creates dance, song, and special clothing called regalia. All his art helps to show and explain the traditional ceremonies of his people.

He often uses natural materials for his art. These include slate from Campbell River, wood, silver, gold, and even ivory. Ki-Ke-In often gets ideas for his art from the sea serpent.

Exhibitions and Sharing

In 2010, Ki-Ke-In had a special art show. It was at the University of British Columbia. This show featured his own art and also old Nuu-chah-nulth ceremonial curtains. This exhibition was part of the Vancouver Cultural Olympiad. It was a big event that celebrated art and culture.

Working with Museums

Ki-Ke-In has worked with important museums to share his knowledge. In 2006, he spent a month at the National Museum of the American Indian. There, he wrote descriptions for old artifacts. He also wrote a chapter for a book about the museum's exhibits. During his time there, he sang an ancient prayer chant called "ciquaa." He also spoke to the artifacts in his own language. He wanted to make sure they felt safe and in a good place.

In 2018, he became a co-curator at the American Museum of Natural History. A co-curator helps to plan and organize museum exhibits. Ki-Ke-In is working on a big project there. It will help to fix and protect a section that shows the cultures of the First Nations from the Pacific Northwest. This work helps to make sure these important cultures are understood and respected.
