Kiara is a super tall building, also known as a skyscraper, in Seattle, Washington. It's a home for many people, with 461 apartments inside. This amazing building is 40 stories high, which is about 435 feet (133 meters) tall! It was finished in 2018.
Kiara is special because it's the very first skyscraper in the South Lake Union area. It's also one of the few really tall buildings outside of Downtown Seattle. You can find it where Denny Way and Terry Avenue meet. It's close to where The Seattle Times newspaper is made and near the Cornish College of the Arts.
Building Design and Cool Features
The company that built Kiara, Holland Partner Group, hired a design team called Weber Thompson. They wanted the building to show off two different styles. Part of it looks like the old industrial buildings from the area, with a six-story brick base. The other part, the tall tower, looks very modern with lots of glass. This mix shows both the past and the future of the neighborhood.
Kiara has a large parking garage with space for 374 cars. It also has 188 spots for bikes, which is great for people who like to cycle. Residents can enjoy fun places like an outdoor porch and a deck on the roof. The brick base of the building also has shops and stores, covering about 15,100 square feet (1,403 square meters).
One of the most amazing parts of the building is the penthouse apartment. It's huge, about 3,000 square feet (279 square meters)!
Kiara's History and Construction
The plans for this 40-story apartment building were first announced in December 2014. The land where Kiara now stands was bought in March 2015 for $20.1 million. The city of Seattle approved the building's design in December 2015.
Construction started in January 2016. First, an old three-story warehouse from 1927 had to be taken down. After a lot of hard work, Kiara officially opened its doors on September 1, 2018.
