The Kidwelly Industrial Museum was a special place that showed how people used to make things in Kidwelly, Wales. It focused on the history of making tinplate, which is thin steel covered with tin. The museum also taught about coal mining and making bricks in the area. It was a great way to learn about the past jobs and industries that were important to the town.
Where Was the Museum?
The museum was located near the town of Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. It was built on the exact spot where the old Kidwelly Tinplate Works used to be. This factory started way back in 1737. It made tinplate for many years before it closed down in 1941. The museum itself welcomed visitors until it closed in 2017.
Some parts of the old tinplate factory are very important historical buildings. The engine house, where big machines used to work, is a Grade II* listed building. This means it's a very important building that needs to be protected. The factory's tall chimney, the boxing room, and the assorting room are also listed as Grade II buildings. These parts help us remember the history of industry in Kidwelly.
